Digital Screenmedia Association

Here are some answers to what we anticipate will be frequently asked questions regarding the recent merger.

What is the Digital Screenmedia Association?

The Digital Screenmedia Association is a newly formed 501(c)(6) non-profit organization which brings together user/deployers, vendors, integrators, network operators, agencies, mobility providers and others who are engaged in digital signage, interactive kiosks, mobile applications and self-service.

How did it come about?

The new organization is a result of a merger of the Digital Signage Association and the Self-Service & Kiosk Association. Leaders of both associations recognized the convergence of digital technologies, identified the opportunity to join forces, and noted the fact that two-thirds of the user/deployer members belonged to both organizations. Therefore, a merger was explored and ultimately approved by both organizations’ Advisory Boards by an overwhelming majority. The new combined organization has over 600 members, the majority of those being company memberships.

Why the name Digital Screenmedia Association?

It is recognized that in many ways, the technologies involved are converging. Digital signage, interactive kiosks and mobile devices all have a screen. The media, or content, is vitally important to each of these technology solutions. A task force considered over 60 possible names and ultimately recommended this umbrella name that did have the benefit of retaining the acronym of one of the organizations – DSA.

As a user/deployer, what’s in it for me?

First, you now have one organization to turn to for information on end-to-end, multi-channel solutions. You will have access to a library of best practices, the ability to network with peers, vendors and others involved in developing and implementing digital screenmedia solutions as well as valuable discounts. You can learn from the greatest minds in the industry and from others who have led successful customer technology rollouts in their companies.

As a vendor, what’s in it for me?

For vendors, you have the benefit of belonging to one association, instead of several, for gaining visibility, sales leads, discounts, networking opportunities, education and more. If you are currently involved in one type of technology, you will be exposed to new opportunities and connections. The convergence of the many technologies should be important to you because it is important to your customers.

I only deal with a particular segment of this larger scope you are describing; do I belong in the DSA?

Absolutely. We’re taking steps to make sure everyone is included. In addition to our existing User/Deployer Council, we are creating councils for digital signage, self-service kiosks, mobile, advertising, EMEA, AsiPacific and Latin America. Each council will chaired by an association vice president that will sit on the Board of Directors to make certain every segment of membership has a voice in the business of the DSA

How is this different from the associations of the past?

From the outset, this organization is being established as a fully independent non-profit organization. It will have a broader scope, a larger membership and therefore more impact in the marketplace.

Who will serve on the Board of Directors?

The Advisory Boards of both associations will serve on a combined Advisory Board. The Advisory Board will elect a smaller Board of Directors. The Board of Directors will be comprised of:
• President
• Executive Vice President, Digital Signage
• Executive Vice President, Self-Service Kiosks
• Treasurer
• Secretary
• Vice Presidents representing each council mentioned previously

What is the schedule?

The association is already established. Bylaws are being developed and operations are to be consolidated by June 1.

I’m a member, how does it affect me?

All current members will automatically become members of the new DSA, keeping your original enrollment date. We will be issuing member logos shortly. You will have access to all the benefits previously offered by the Digital Signage Association and the Self-Service & Kiosk Association and the advantage of being part of a larger, more powerful association that represents a broader scope of technologies. With over 600 members the association, we will be able to offer even more educational resources and opportunities.

I’m not a member, how do I join?

You can sign up at our booth #230 at KioskCom/The Digital Signage Show this week or online through our existing join page.
