TELUS was the primary turnkey Digital Integrator for FGL Sports Ltd’s first digital flagship store in Canada – the newest SportChek in the West Edmonton Mall, Edmonton, Alberta Canada.

Objectives:
Leading technologies were implemented in the West Edmonton Mall flagship deployment. SportChek can centrally deliver real-time, targeted messaging to any/all of the 240 channels within the store, based on customer demographics, vendor specific departments and promotional campaigns. 

The latest in a custom developed interactive gesture and touch interfaces allow customers to obtain real-time information on products and available options via live integrations with FGL’s digital product catalogues.

The award winning Biamp Tesira digital audio platform delivers over 80 channels of unique digital audio content to any location with the store timed and synchronized with store video playlists or totally independent a may be scheduled by FGl’s digital content team. The Tesira system is totally scalable and runs over IP. The designed flexibility allows FGL unrestricted audio possibilities.

Product Description & Timeframe:
The project started in concept February 2013 with design requirements finalized late summer and implementation commencing later fall. The actual site construction of the 80K sq/ft store was a massive project and the core DS was implemented in stages to match the construction schedules. As with all projects, challenges appeared and were dealt with - all the way to the executive store opening.

Growing from the Digital Retail Lab DS implementation by TELUS last year in Toronto, this store showcases the “next phase” of their retail experience: Customer interactive

Results:
The West Edmonton Mall Sport Chek store (~78,000 square feet) represents the largest single Retail digital signage deployment in North America. FGL and CTC executives have all experienced this store first-hand and confirmed the “bar has been raised” for all others in the retail industry – challenging them to deliver a better experience for their customers. 

The Sport Chek customer feedback has been phenomenally positive each and every day since their opening. Media from Canada and the USA has gone wild touting the new age of customer experience delivery. All comments from customers have been extremely positive. Vendor partners are demanding premium exposure for their latest products/services and have all been supplying HD digital media content to keep up with the store’s demand for fresh and new.

The resulting goal of “Return on Experience” for the customers is unparalleled in the Retail Sports store business. This store is unique in North America and possibly the world market as of today – actually making shopping “fun” and “rewarding” for their customers using technology to deliver the current product trends in HD content, and inspiration for new sporting equipment using HD quality vendor/manufacturer videos.
