Paderborn - Bundled expertise brings greater security to electronic payment transactions: Wincor Nixdorf, one of the world’s leading providers of IT solutions for retail banks and retailers, and IRIS Analytics, leading provider of real-time fraud prevention software for electronic payment transactions, will be working together closely in the future. Wincor Nixdorf will distribute the software product IRIS on a global scale and also offer it to customers as an integral part of its ProClassic/Enterprise Retail Banking Solution Suite.
IRIS follows a multichannel strategy, combining and evaluating information from any payment channel desired. Data from card-based transactions, online banking or mobile banking can be linked and analyzed in real time. Highly suspicious transactions can be rejected directly during the authorization process with a hitherto unmatched accuracy. For example, if an authorization computer receives two authorization requests for the same debit or credit card more or less at the same time from Moscow and New York, the solution can reject the authorization and thus prevent misuse. When it comes to online banking, IRIS also reacts to unusual behavior, such as someone accessing an account from an IP address that has never been used before and attempting to transfer money to a suspicious target account, or trying to withdraw a large amount of cash from an ATM shortly afterwards. “Criminals work in global networks, are very creative and act quickly,“ says Hanns-Michael Hepp, Managing Director of IRIS Analytics. “IRIS is a highly flexible, proactive tool for fraud protection that enables our customers to detect complex interrelationships as early as possible and prevent misuse.” “Fraud is one of the biggest challenges in the electronic payments arena these days,” Johann Praschinger  Head of Payment Solutions at Wincor Nixdorf adds, “and we make sure that our customers aren’t left out in the rain in this respect.”

Through this partnership, Wincor Nixdorf and IRIS Analytics offer their customers state-of-the-art technology, extensive know-how and a coordinated strategy for more secure payment transactions. “Our end-to-end security concept ProTect provides our banking customers’ card holders with effective protection at ATMs and terminals; with IRIS, we’re extending this protective shield to the other payment channels too,” says Johann Praschinger. The main focus is on reducing all fraud-related costs and increasing customer satisfaction. Whenever there’s reason to suspect that customer data has been compromised, the respective cards and accounts can be kept under special surveillance through IRIS. “The cards in question are only replaced in the case of an actual fraud attack. This helps prevent costly, reputation-damaging mass replacements, “ Johann Praschinger adds. The IRIS technology therefore allows fraud attacks by organized criminals to be averted without notably affecting permissible transactions.

Eden Prairie, Minnesota - The new health care reform passed into law by Congress last Sunday sets a national standard for nutrition labeling on restaurant menus. The reform will affect all Quick Service Restaurants with 20 or more locations, regardless of ownership.

QSR franchisees who own only a few locations will still be affected if the total number of brand stores is 20 or greater. By setting one consistent national standard the National Restaurant Association says the new law will help consumers make better choices for themselves and their families. Since details may remain unclear until as late as the end of July the versatility provided by digital displays justifies a solution to replace standard printed menu boards.

“This is a complex and industry changing event for the entire QSR community,” said Greg Perrill, Chief Operating Officer for WAND Corporation. Caloric and nutrient information will be required on restaurant menus, menu boards, and Drive-Thru displays. WAND Corporation, the global leader in Digital Menu Board and Point Of Sale technology for the QSR space, plans to be a part of the solution process. WAND Corporation’s Digital Menu Boards already handle nutritional information and their dynamic content can be changed or updated instantly. “We foresaw the need for providing customers with nutritional information of menu items and built the feature into our Digital Menu Board technology,” added Perrill. More information will be forthcoming from WAND Corporation.

About WAND Corporation

WAND Corporation is the global technology leader for the Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) industry working with some of the most known world-class brands today. ONELAN & Urban View collaborate

Aker Brygge´s shopping mall is situated in Oslo, the capital of Norway, by the Fjord Pier.   It is a medium sized shopping mall with 65 stores, of primarily high end shopping. The unique surroundings have created a popular venue, attracting over 6 million people every year.  Many Norwegians work at Aker Brygge pier as it has over 86 000 m2 of office space, in addition to housing bars, cafés, restaurants, shops, cinema, stand up theater and boat docks.

Aker Brygge needed a Wayfinder system, and at the same time wanted to show adverts.  Doublesided LCD-Signboards met their needs with touchscreens on one side and LCD-screens on the other, showing adverts, as well as stock market information and weather. In addition to the LCD-screens indoors there is also a portrait format 10 mm pixel pitch 25m2 LED-screen installed outside the centre above the main entrance. ONELAN digital signage was chosen as different zones of each screen can be dedicated to  different purposes and playlists;  in addition, only one system is required for the commercials on both indoor (LCD-screens) and outdoor (LED-screen) installations as the portrait aspect ratio is the same for both.

What is installed

5 ONELAN Net-Top-Box (NTB) 5000s with Touch licenses for the Wayfinding, 1 NTB 5000 for the advertising, the 10 mm pixel pitch 25m2 LED-screen, 5 doublesided 46” LCD-Signboards with one-side touch and DVI-signal through fiberoptic cable.

Collaboration

Urban View is a Norwegian company established in 2006 as a media sales company.  In 2007 the company started focusing on digital signage and applications with a Wayfinder system for integration with both ONELAN products and LCD-signboards. Through this collaboration a highly functional solution has been developed. In addition to developing software solutions Urbanview also designs and produces their own LCD-Signboards, Urban View Korea Co., Ltd. was established in 2009 for manufacturing department in Seoul, Korea.  LED screens are also supplied; there are currently two installations of 25m2 LED screens in Oslo: one at Oslo City shopping mall and the other at Aker Brygge shopping mall.

ONELAN develops network appliances for standalone and end-to-end Digital Signage network solutions. The Net-Top-Box is a multimedia, multi-zoned solution capable of Touch Interactivity. With a browser based user interface, the system is fully multi-lingual and capable of displaying both stored media and live media e.g RSS feeds, web pages and broadcast TV or locally streamed video. Further members of the product family cater for Enterprise network management and integration with external data sources.

ONELAN’s NTBs are now installed in a wide variety of organizations such as retail, schools, hospitals, and government buildings, as well as some well-known corporates such as Vodafone, Virgin Holidays and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

ONELAN Ltd is based in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire.

Wincomm Upgrades Its 15” Industrial Panel PC for Harsh and Hygienic Applications

Hsin-Chu, Taiwan – WTP-8865 series is Wincomm’s all-in-one industrial panel PC with high protection enclosure design to achieve high level water & dust resistant and is an ideal solution for harsh and hygienic environments. Such demanding applications can be as the shop floor terminal for chemical & steel plants where high exposure to spray, heat and air-borne particles; or used in the food production, critical clinical site, and pharmaceuticals laboratories where strictest hygienic requirements is a must.

For Wincomm’s 15” Intel Atom based WTP-8865-15 high protection industrial panel PC, our latest efforts is   to upgrade the design to IP67 (NEMA 6) enclosure protection and fanless operation.

IP67 (NEMA 6) enclosure protection

The International Standard IEC 60529 defines IP (International Protection or Ingress Protection) rating, the first code “6” indicates no ingress of dust (dust tight condition), the second code “7” indicates no ingress of water for up to 1 meter submersion under defined conditions of pressure & time (30 minutes).

To achieve this IP67 high protection, Wincomm designs the whole enclosure without any exposed ventilation slots, minimize housing joints and sealed with rubbers/gaskets, glue the touch panel seamlessly to the bezel, use waterproof type I/O connectors and membrane keypad. Further more, we use marine grade corrosion resistant type 316 stainless steel to create a smooth surface housing which can repels dirt, dust and water effectively and makes extensive cleaning an easy task.

With such complete closed construction, we need to consider a possible side-effect. The operating heat will be accumulated inside the housing and cause expansion effect, or after cooling-off, there will be condensed moisture. Both may affect enclosure closeness or cause critical components damage. To prevent this, Wincomm adds a unique air-breathing design for heat emission without degrading the enclosure’s IP67 rating.

Fanless operation for 40°C ambient temperature

Previously WTP-8865-15 operates with smart fan and IP65 enclosure, with the new IP67 complete closed construction, it is even more difficult for fanless operation. Wincomm’s mechanical & thermal engineers manage to find better component placement, better heatsink design to achieve the best heat dissipation for those thermal critical components (i.e. CPU, chipset, hard disk drive, and system memory). Now for up to  40°C ambient temperature, our WTP-8865-15 can operate without fan and is more quiet and reliable.
For some applications that required even higher ambient operating temperature, we can adapt wide range temperature hard disk drive, add one fan for system memory heat dissipation and the whole system can operate for up to 50°C ambient temperature.
Other key features

  1. Touch integration: Resistive touch or IR touch panel with toughened glass (Due to IR sensors’ sealing limitation, the IR touch panel integration will support IP65 rating).
  2. Intel Atom N270 1.6 GHz CPU, 533 MHz FSB, one SODIMM socket for 2 GB maximum memory.
  3. LCD panel: 15”, 1024 x 768 resolution, 350 nits brightness.
  4. 2.5” SATA HDD with anti-vibration mechanism, PCI & mini-PCI-e expansion.
  5. External 80 watts universal power adaptor w/ 12V DC output.
  6. Dimension: 395 x 345 x 93.5 mm (W x H x D)   Weight: 9 kg (net, w/ resistive touch)

  7. Watchdog timer AP, support Wincomm Remote Device Management software (WRDM)
    Summary
Wincomm’s engineering expertise upgrade our WTP-8865-15 to IP67 enclosure protection with unique air-breathing design together with fanless operation, this high protection industrial panel PC is now an ideal solution for most demanding applications of harsh & hygienic environments.

New Touchmonitors Deliver Style and Functionality to Rugged Environments Like Point-of-Sale (POS), Point-of-Information (POI), Interactive Digital Signage, and Kiosk Information Systems

HARRISBURG, Pa. –  Elo TouchSystems, a Tyco Electronics business, brings high performance LCD panels together with the industry's leading touch technologies to create new wide-aspect touchmonitors.

The two new touchmonitors are 15 and 19 inches and are well suited for public venues such as point-of-sale (POS), point-of-information (POI), point-of-service, interactive digital signage, loyalty systems, kiosk information systems, light industrial shop-floor automation and home control. Both touchmonitors are built to withstand the rugged and sometimes punishing commercial or public environments where many people use them. Personal computer monitors that have not been ruggedised may not last long in these types of environments.

Both touchmonitors are available in three industry-leading Elo TouchSystems technologies:

  • Zero-bezel APR ? touch is sensed on the display when the unique pattern of sounds is recognised. It has the advantage and durability of pure glass, works with any input device; finger, glove, pen, credit card, etc. – and is resistant to water, dust and grease.
  • Standard-bezel IntelliTouch surface acoustic wave ? uses pure-glass touchscreens for excellent clarity, resolution and light transmission. It has a durable, scratch-resistant glass surface, delivers stable, no drift calibration performance and can be activated by a finger, gloved hand or soft stylus.
  • Zero-bezel AccuTouch 5-wire resistive ? delivers stable, drift-free operation. It has broad input flexibility, is contamination resistant and is accurate for high-use applications.

“The wide-screen format of both touchmonitors provides more space to display your applications and they can also be used in portrait mode,” said James Witkowski, Elo product manager, “Zero-bezel touchmonitors are as practical as they are beautiful. The easy-to-clean screen surface is resistant to water, dust and grease, making it an excellent choice for use in a public environment.”

Founded in 1914, R&K are one of Chile´s biggest Optician chains with more than 40 stores across the country as well as over 150 concessions in Chile´s biggest department stores (Falabella, Paris and Ripley). R&K sell sunglasses from well known brand names, optical glasses, contact lenses and hearing aid devices.

R & K wanted a way to advertise the products they sell whilst also providing a relaxed and interesting atmosphere in their stores. They had several key technical issues to overcome including the requirement to remotely manage the signage through the local firewall.  Originally the FTP was installed at R&K’s site and a remote desktop was used to access the Net-Top-Box (NTB) configuration pages.

R & K’s internal technical department were uncomfortable allowing external companies remote unsecured access to their network across their firewalls. ONELAN were able to offer their Digital Signage Manager’s (DSM) Virtual Private Network (VPN) for this purpose, removing the need for a server or PC on their site.  The DSM can optionally act as a VPN of Secure Capped VPN tunnels. TLS V1 is used to securely authenticate NTBs into the VPN. This allows an authorized operator of the DSM to make access to remote NTBs even if they are located behind firewall-routers. In this mode, the operator may be on the same site as the DSM or at another location.

Reliability is a key requirement for R&K due to the instability in the power supply and intermittent internet connection in Chile. ONELAN was chosen as the Net-Top-Box (NTB) is a Linux embedded appliance designed for low maintenance 24/7 operation. NTBs recover quickly after an unplanned loss of power and self-start once power is resumed.

The NTBs also feature an intelligent file transfer mechanism.  NTBs will only download from the FTP source any differences to the Schedule/Playlist rather than spending time downloading media again.  In addition if transmission is interrupted due to loss of power or internet connection, the intelligent file handling system ensures file transfer resumes at the point where the interruption occurred and does not have to be re-started from the beginning.

R&K´s layout includes one Video Zone (full screen advert) and one
Soundtrack Zone.  Instead of separate devices the NTBs separate Soundtrack capability have allowed R&K to achieve both their Digital Signage and In Store Audio system requirements with just one device.  The whole system is based on an NTB 615 (Publisher), 50 NTB 500 (subscribers) and an FTP Server.

“R&K’s network was recently attacked by a heavy virus and an old Windows platform was one of the suspects. So a more secure solution had to be found. ONELAN’s solution came in and satisfied R&K’s requirements, by being reliable, powerful in addition to being supported by a great team” says Alvaro Amar, Network Manager for the R&K Digital Signage Network.

ONELAN develops network appliances for standalone and end-to-end Digital Signage network solutions. The Net-Top-Box is a multimedia, multi-zoned solution capable of Touch Interactivity. With a browser based user inter¬face, the system is fully multi-lingual and capable of dis¬playing both stored media and live media e.g RSS feeds, web pages and broadcast TV or locally streamed video.

MONTREAL —  X2O Media, a full-service provider of software, network management, and content services for professional digital signage applications, today announced that Vern Freedlander, the company's Vice President of Production Services, will present "Making Ads Stick: Embracing New Technologies and Interactivity to Increase Advertising Effectiveness" at the 5th Annual Digital Signage Content Strategies Summit in Las Vegas.

Held on April 12 and 13 at Mandalay Bay in conjunction with the Digital Signage Show, the Digital Signage Content Strategies Summit offers business intelligence and creative insights from the industry's best innovators, helping attendees to understand the critical link between context, consumer, and content to strengthen the relevance of their message.
In his presentation on April 12 at 11:30 a.m., Freedlander will address the latest developments in contextual and interactive content currently being deployed by leading hotel chains. Via specific examples showcasing the integration of venue-specific content such as flight schedules, local attractions, hotel amenities, conference schedules, and sophisticated wayfinding applications, Freedlander will explore successful strategies that create outstanding viewer engagement.

Furthermore, he will discuss ways to improve the content management and ad production process with an overview of how integration between software platforms allows operators to streamline workflow. The result is digital signage that leverages technology and content to build brands and create new revenue possibilities.

"Content can transform digital signage from an electronic bulletin board to a brand engagement medium," said Freedlander. "In our industry, there is a real risk of trapping viewers in a passive experience. By leveraging the best practices of other media — such as high production values; strong design; interactivity; relevant, focused content; and strong, bold messaging — we can push the medium forward and create a new, exciting way to build valuable relationships with viewers."

With more than 20 years of broadcast television experience as a producer, director, and executive, including significant work with CTV and Canwest, Freedlander oversees all of X2O Media's content initiatives. His unique blend of creative, production, and editorial skills, and his experience in large-scale branding projects provides X2O's clients with unique content products, services, and consultation that in turn make digital networks highly watchable by engaging viewers, while clearly and accurately conveying editorial and advertising information.

Analytical Design Solutions, Inc. (ADSI), developers of the KioWare Kiosk Software, and OneSource Interactive have announced the release of PicsWare, a portable photo tagging solution that syncs up and sends pictures to print-on-demand kiosks.

PicsWare is a photo management solution that streamlines the picture-taking, tagging, viewing, printing and purchasing process by integrating a handheld computer and attached card scanner, Wi-Fi camera and print-on-demand kiosk stations. PicsWare allows photographers to take a picture and scan a passenger’s ID card in order to tag the photo as that passenger. The system integrates a Wi-Fi Camera with a portable handheld computer running PicsWare Mobile. The computer has a card scanner, which tags the picture to that passenger and syncs it up to a centralized server. The server then distributes the pictures to print-on-demand kiosk stations, which attract customers by rotating through the various pictures snapped.

Once at the kiosk, customers can retrieve their photos by simply scanning their ID card at the kiosk; they also have the ability to search by time, date, event, group and other activity related criteria. Customers can then print their pictures, download or share them with family and friends online.

PicsWare is designed for the travel, tourism and hospitality industry but is uniquely suited for the cruise industry.  Millions of people cruise each year; cruise photographers snap numerous pictures of each passenger, which are typically printed and posted on the corridor walls of the ship. Edward Crowley, co-founder of PicsWare stated, “It can sometimes be difficult to locate one picture among the sea of other smiling faces. PicsWare creates a more efficient way to find these pictures, while increasing the overall passenger experience.”

The software can provide a rapid Return-On-Investment (ROI), multiple opportunities to increase revenue, and the ability to gain press attention for going green. ROI can be seen immediately as utilizing a self-service kiosk frees up wall space for other profitable uses, such as advertising. This self-service kiosk solution also eliminates the need for manned Point of Sale (POS) stations.

This platform also provides an opportunity for supplementary revenue streams through ads and promotions on the kiosk, as well as post-cruise purchasing opportunities. Passengers can charge the pictures to their room and print on-demand at the kiosks. The pictures can also be shared online after the cruise, allowing passengers to share with others and giving them a second chance to purchase the pictures. Sharing the pictures with friends and family will promote the cruise experience and influence them in joining the next time.

At the same time, this helps to make the ship more environmentally-friendly by eliminating the need to print pictures that aren’t purchased. The kiosks can offer a more “green” marketing approach by grabbing attention with a secondary monitor or other forms of digital signage, flashing the pictures in front of consumers.

PicsWare’s simplification of the picture-taking, tagging, viewing, printing and purchasing process helps cruise ships to become more environmentally friendly while improving the customer experience and increasing revenue opportunities.

About PicsWare

PicsWare is a joint venture between ADSI and OneSource Interactive, veterans of the kiosk industry. ADSI is an IT consulting company that has developed numerous and varying award-winning kiosk applications since 2001. ADSI has also developed the KioWare (http://www.kioware.com) retail product line of kiosk system software that secures the operating system. There are over 25,000 licenses of KioWare in over 60 countries.

PTV and Digital signage specialist ONELAN has added a Carousel mode to their IPTV Omni-Server.

The Omni-Server may be operated in a 'Carousel mode' enabling it to record all selected Channels (TV or Radio) for a given period of time in the past, present or future. For example the entire UK FreeView set of channels can be recorded simultaneously.  As the disk becomes full, older programs are deleted. The operator can now identify programs from the past and move them to a 'keep' or 'transcode' folder for delivery to the Video Library Server for storage.  This is particularly useful where there is a requirement to record free-to-air programs in the past, present or future e.g in schools and colleges where educational programs are used to enhance the curriculum and engage students.

The feature can also be used by the Police where large volumes of live TV need to be recorded for later analysis, and corporates who want to monitor TV and radio for industry or company information and announcements.

The IPTV Omni-Server is a single box streaming solution for networked delivery and storage of video content via Ethernet networks. It provides a number of key functions within one appliance, firstly acting as an IPTV TV gateway which can take in Digital free-to-air TV broadcasts (DVB-T/Freeview or DVB-S/FreeSat) and re-broadcast out several TV channels onto a network. Any device on the network can then play back the live TV stream using a desktop PC TV software player, or a media player such as a ONELAN Net-Top-Box. A key benefit of this feature is the reduction in RF coaxial cable wiring required.

The IPTV Omni-Server is compatible with ONELAN NTB media players, and with its web browser interface is accessible from anywhere on a network.

ONELAN’s NTBs are now installed in a wide variety of organisations such as retail, schools, hospitals, and government buildings, as well as some well-known corporates such as Vodafone, Virgin Holidays and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

ONELAN Ltd is based in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire.

The "Suites of the Future" Super Bowl display solution featured a 42" Allura screen, which is capable of displaying high definition glasses-free 3D video and images while also offering backwards compatibility with traditional 2D using the versatile Magnetic 3D FuzionCast network player. Through the FuzionCast player, those in the suites were even able to watch 2D content on the same screens, providing a seamless experience for the audience. The upgrade to glasses-free 3D content and deployment of 3D content to the "Suites of the Future" screens was greatly simplified using Magnetic 3D's proprietary E3D auto-stereo file format, which uses the latest in image compression technology.

Glasses-free 3D content broadcast to the suites included the football league, divisional and team logos, as well as match-up sequences, Super Bowl history messages and a fly-through animation of Sun Life Stadium, in addition to triggered sequences for the kickoff and halftime. Thanks to Magnetic 3D's multi-stereo Enabl3D™ technology, no 3D glasses were required to view the 3D content, as Magnetic 3D's lens technology creates multiple distinct images and true Volumetric Perception™ which is the appearance of apparent "pop" and "depth" of content displayed during playback.  Essentially, the display wears the 3D glasses instead of the viewer.

"The combination of our simultaneous 2D and 3D capable Allura displays and FuzionCAST player enabled the 'Suites of the Future' to truly demonstrate the next level in major stadium and event experiences at this year's Super Bowl," said Eric Angello, VP of Marketing & Creative for Magnetic 3D. "Not only was the content an exciting complement to the game's thrilling live action, but our content distribution channel also seamlessly deployed each stage right on cue. Throughout the event, this maintained a steadily engaging, and unforgettable, unique in-stadium experience for the fans, right up until we broadcast the winning logo to cement another place in football history at the end of the game."

MAASTRICHT, The Netherlands – Scala has named Infinitus d.o.o. a Scala Certified Technology Partner. Infinitus, a global pioneer in large-sized LCD-based outdoor digital signage displays, is the first provider to offer Scala-enabled, all-weather, outside Full HD LCD screens. The displays are sold under the brand iMotion®.

iMotion Full HD LCD screen sizes range from 46 to 65 inches and are best suited for mid- to close-range applications. The displays feature a secure, landscape- or portrait-oriented enclosure that blocks outside air from entering the digital signage system, protecting the hardware from contaminants. iMotion’s air conditioned enclosure technology allows it to operate within more extreme temperature ranges than other outdoor products on the market, and the system’s internal temperature remains optimal, even when temperatures fluctuate in the external environment. iMotion also offers improved readability, even in direct sunlight.

“Scala is a leader in the digital signage market, and we are excited to offer Scala software users a new option for deploying more advanced and practical digital displays outdoors,” said Dikran Tawitian, Marketing Manager of Infinitus. “The outdoor digital signage market is still emerging, and Scala’s recognition of iMotion gives end users the confidence that it is a high-quality, versatile solution for communicating with customers.”

iMotion screens are compatible with touchscreen, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi technologies, in addition to IP cameras and other ancillary accessories. The systems are available in single-sided and double-sided options.

“Infinitus’ iMotion product overcomes many of the challenges traditionally associated with hosting an outdoor digital signage network,” said Oscar Elizaga, Scala Vice President, EMEA. “We look forward to seeing future installations worldwide taking advantage of the durability and flexibility of the iMotion system as a key support of outdoor digital information and advertising networks.”

X2O's Xpresenter™ Digital Signage Platform Delivers 34 Channels of Real-Time Content For Complex's Indoor and Outdoor HD Displays

MONTREAL —  X2O Media today announced that its Xpresenter™ digital signage software is delivering content to an extensive network of digital displays, including a front gate news ticker and baseball stadium jumbotron, at the newly rebranded ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort. The suburban Orlando, Fla. sports complex was re-launched on Feb. 25 bearing the cable-sports juggernaut's look and feel throughout the 220-acre facility.

ESPN, one of the best-known sports brands on the planet, will now be prominently featured at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex to impart the sense that athletes competing there have reached the apex of their careers — an appearance on ESPN. To foster the feeling, Disney and ESPN have installed 42 HD video cameras at different venues throughout the complex, another 10 handheld cameras, and 40 HD video screens — including jumbotrons above the welcome center and inside Champion Stadium.

X2O's Xpresenter 3.0 distributes 34 channels of highlights and real-time content to the complex's HD screens, which include multiple real-time data sources, such as weather, news, and live tournament results. All content is displayed as high-resolution 3-D graphics and animations in a style closely based on ESPN's on-air brand. Users work within the X2O Portal to manage assets, schedule content, monitor each channel's output, and control various playout functions. Content is managed by multiple users, each assigned appropriate roles and permissions. Because of Xpresenter's flexibility, content can be scheduled a year in advance for playout at any time on any networked screen.

The Xpresenter platform is also driving content on the baseball stadium scoreboard during games as well as a giant circular ticker display at the park entrance with real-time news and announcements. The system will display the familiar ESPN BottomLine — sports news, game scores, and other live information from the sports world.

"In the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, Disney has created a topnotch venue to encourage the amateur athletes who have the good fortune to compete there," said David Wilkins, X2O Media President and CEO. "The eye-catching, high-resolution graphics delivered by Xpresenter will contribute to the five-star atmosphere, while the signage system's flexibility and intuitive operation make it easy for staff to manage and maintain."

X2O's Xpresenter is an end-to-end platform designed to make creating, managing, and distributing broadcast-quality digital signage content on networks of all sizes available to all. With the latest release of the platform, version 3.0, X2O has bolstered the Xpresenter Template Maker, the only patented application running inside Microsoft® PowerPoint®, with integrated content management and an extensive "smart" object library for the quick and simple creation of content featuring videos, images, PowerPoint slides, RSS feeds, live information sources, and much more. Version 3.0 also includes support for 3-D objects and animations, enabling the creation of innovative elements such as rotating video surfaces, 3-D tickers, and dynamic graphical elements animated in 3-D space.

Eden Prairie, Minnesota - Wendy’s FourCrown Inc. received an FSTEC Technology Innovation Award for its complete Digital Restaurant. Their Digital Restaurant is comprised of WAND indoor and outdoor Digital Menu Boards and WAND NextGen POS software. The award was presented to FourCrown 23 February in Long Beach, California, during a ceremony at FSTEC, the annual Foodservice Technology Conference & Showcase produced and managed by Nation’s Restaurant News with Robert N. Grimes of Accuvia.

“FourCrown, by deploying digital menu and marketing technology in the drive-thru as well as inside at some of its restaurants, has created a dynamic means of communicating product and branding messages to all patrons by season, month, week, day or even daypart,” said Alan J. Liddle. Liddle is Nation’s Restaurant News’ technology editor and a member of the FSTEC awards committee. “A restaurant-wide system of digital menu and marketing boards is innovative in that it gives FourCrown the ability to use multimedia messaging, with its attention grabbing powers, and program the delivery of such content for maximum strategic or tactical impact, while also simplifying the updating of product description and pricing information for a faster response to market conditions,” also said Liddle.

In the Wendy’s FourCrown Digital Restaurant, the attractive high-definition displays are ten times more likely to catch the attention of customers. The customer-facing displays on the indoor POS terminals and the outdoor Order Confirmation Display (OCD) screens utilize Conversational Ordering and confirm the customer’s order back and suggest combo and up-selling options.

The outdoor digital Point Of Purchase (POP) Board and all digital three panel outdoor Digital Menu Board feature high definition sunlight-readable, climate-controlled screens. These screens feature content that can be fluidly updated, rotated, and arranged to compliment product offerings and new promotions to drive sales. Both units have been built to withstand extreme temperatures. The Wendy’s community has been an innovative QSR partner with WAND for 20 years now.

Comprehensive modernization for better customer service:

Wincor Nixdorf and HypoVereinsbank (HVB) have successfully completed one of the most extensive rollouts of self-service systems in Germany. Together with HypoVereinsbank, Wincor Nixdorf has installed around 1700 systems – self-service terminals, statement printers and cash deposit and dispensing systems – at over 600 locations within 16 months. This project means that HVB now has cutting-edge technology to help the bank ensure highly available and extensive customer service.

In the process, HVB, one of the largest private major banks in Germany, has improved and extended its self-service portfolio. Customers can now conduct standard transactions such as deposits, withdrawals, statement printing, funds transfers or mobile phone top-ups around the clock. Feedback on the new systems from HVB’s customers has been consistently positive. The account statement printers have been replaced with multi-function self-service terminals in all branches, so that customers now have access to an extended range of services at HVB banks. In addition, customers experience the user-friendliness of the new systems as a significant improvement over the previous technology. Examples include the scanners installed in many locations for scanning funds transfer forms, or the faster printing speed.

HVB commissioned Wincor Nixdorf in two tranches to equip the branches with self-service technology. In mid 2008, Wincor Nixdorf received the contract for roughly 1500 systems – cash dispensers, statement printers and self-service terminals. In June 2009, HVB ordered a further 185 systems that unite the cash deposit and withdrawal functions in one device. Wincor Nixdorf is also assuming responsibility for the maintenance of the newly installed devices. The control of service provision takes place via an online connection from the devices to HVB’s own management system and from there to Wincor Nixdorf’s Customer Care Center.

Lock America launches two new drill-resistant options for vending machines and bill changers:

•    A High Security Flange with ten hardened steel pins has been designed for use in machines that have a recessed t-handle cradle.  It has been successfully field-tested for over a year by a large water bottling company with impressive results.

•    A Surface-Mounted High Security T-Handle with eight hardened steel pins
has been successfully field tested for over two years by a large national water vending company.  The results were staggering. The flange can be purchased separately and installed into an existing cradle.

The hardened steel pins have been added to both sides of the flange to maximize protection, making the lock mechanism virtually drill-proof. Lock America developed both products in response to recent increases in attacks on vending machines and bill counters.  After thorough testing and documented success, both are now available to the vending and coin-op industry.

(Taipei, Taiwan) Lanner has released the LEC-7030, an interactive platform aimed at the narrowcasting segment of the digital signage market. New features of the LEC-7030 include both S-Video and RCA Audio inputs. Additional features include an onboard 1.6GHz Intel Atom with VGA and DVI-D video outs.

The VGA and DVI-D video outputs can be connected to any digital signage screen to produce vivid video and audio. Utilizing both outputs can increase the surface area of the message and can increase signage effectiveness. Applications include high impact advertising screens in locations such as shopping malls, tourist destinations and mass transport.

By designing the LEC-7030 to have both analog S-Video and RCA Audio inputs, Lanner has enabled additional signage functionality. By setting an external camera connected via the S-Video port, this platform can record data regarding customer viewership- allowing you to act upon that data to increase your signage effectiveness. Unlike IP cameras, the S-Video input can provide high quality video footage at a low price, without effecting network capabilities.

Hardware specifications for the LEC-7030 include an onboard 1.6GHz Intel Atom (N270) and an Intel 945GSE+ICH7M chipset. The LEC-7030 can hold up to 2GBs of RAM through a single SODIMM socket. It supports one 2.5" SATA HDD, DOM, and CompactFlash.

As for I/O ports there are 2 x RS-232 COM, 1 x Digital I/O, 4 x USB 2.0 and 1 RJ45 GbE port.
In addition to the RCA inputs there are RCA outputs for high quality sound.

With industrial components, the LEC 7030 has been tested for a temperature range between -10 degrees to 55 degrees Celsius. It is compatible with both Linux kernel 2.14.6 and above, along with both Windows XPE and Windows XP 32-bit.

MENOMONIE, Wis. – Royal Credit Union, which has been growing significantly through its recent merger with REAL Financial Credit Union and the acquisition of AnchorBank branches and assets, continues to roll out StrandVision Digital Signage across its network to communicate with members in its branches and at drive-ups.

Digital signage enables RCU to leverage its marketing communications investments and bring targeted and timely promotions directly to members. It is using the StrandVision system at the ShopKo branch in Eau Claire, as well as offices in Menomonie and Colby, with plans to add five locations in the near future.

In addition to large flat-screen displays in the branches, the signage is integrated into RCU’s drive-up teller systems to display member messages between transactions and when the teller is not being shown on the screen.

RCU runs its TV ads on the digital signage displays, as well as other marketing communications campaigns, community events, member programs and product promotions, local news and weather.

“This approach works well from both communications and cost standpoints. We’re able to create materials for mass media and internal audiences at the same time,” commented Vicki Hoehn, executive vice president, marketing. “StrandVision gives us the flexibility to communicate multiple messages to our members instantaneously without cluttering the branches with lots of signs. It makes the offices cleaner, crisper, classier.”

“RCU is a longstanding StrandVision customer that piloted our first-generation system and made substantial contributions to the current product offering through their recommendations,” said Mike Strand, StrandVision founder and CEO. “We‘re pleased to expand our network with them and to contribute to their marketing efforts.”

About StrandVision

StrandVision LLC, based in Menomonie, delivers low-cost, Web-based Software as a Service (SaaS) digital signage through a patent-pending approach that delivers content to subscribers’ LCD and plasma displays, as well as computer screens and Web sites.
